Scam Emails
Criminals are becoming MUCH cleverer with their Scam Emails, making it more and more difficult to spot legitimate ones from fake ones.
Emails from BT, Paypal, Microsoft and even friends, to name but a few sources, leave you wondering “is it or isn’t it real?”
One simple trick with emails from service providers is to actually click on REPLY to the email (no, you are not actually going to send it!) and see where the reply address is going to. You would expect to see a business address, but if you are seeing an email ending in @btinternet.com or @hotmail.com or @gmail.com (as examples) then the email is clearly fake. Now discard the ‘reply’ message and delete the original.
This trick is not a “silver bullet” to identify all the scam emails you receive and you will continue to need to apply that most important or all internet security, COMMON SENSE.
